Further progress on mounted noble

Got a little more done on the noble tonight.

More painting!

It seems I'll never get on top of the painting to-do list. Getting my dragon princes worked on, while doing the mounted noble as well. Might as well get the base coat for the white done on all the horses as long as I'm working with the grey on my brush. Just feels overwhelming.

When (if?) I get the mounted figures done, I'll be down (HA!) to the battle standard bearer, 2 lion chariots, 10 swordmasters (refuse to get more until they release them in plastic instead of finecast), 5 ellyrian reavers (oh crap....more horses), 2 bolt throwers, 20 archers, and a huuuuuuuge slew of spears.

If the Xmas white dwarf brings me more figures, I'll still have to assemble and paint those.

Ugh.

A follow-up

I just want to throw this out there about the griphon: I had some issues with the claws and beak. I decided to do the logical thing and search some images on the internet for some real-life inspiration...here are the two pics I really drew from as far as colors.

Gryphon Prince/Noble

Pretty much done! Just need to play around with the base...ugh! But I don't plan on doing anything further with the paint. It's good enough! I have too much else to do to sit and fuss over it anymore! (Which means that I'll most likely go back and touch up this or that...but not likely)

Gryphon prince/noble WiP

Here's the WiP pics of the Island of Blood prince on griphon. Trying to get it finished up because I've been procrastinating for a year or so. Just down to detail work...which tends to be the tedious part of it.

Alarielle finished!

Here are the pics of the finished model that I submitted for the quarterly painting contest. Voting starts tomorrow, winner announced in 1 week. I highly doubt I'll score in the top 3... but whatever! Just glad it's done. Next time I'm going with a larger model.

Cavalry prince/noble WiP

Some work in progress shots of my cavalry prince/noble. While I'm happy with the green, I'm not happy with the green on this particular model. My intention was to go with a blue/aqua scheme on this one, along with the bulk of the army and have my dragon princes with this color scheme. After I got done applying the green and starting with some of the highlights I realized which model I was painting and said "Awwww, shit. Oh well." Sure, I could have stripped the paint and started over, but with time a precious resource I decided to keep it.

So, the start of my prince/noble. Sorry about the blurry shot on the first pic, my hands shake every so often. Caffeine and nicotine related (I hope).

Display piece WiP again

Further progress on the display piece. Need to sand down the pillars a little, let it dry up, then base coat it, flock it, and thrn detail work. Need to wait 2-3 days for it to dry. Hopefully less than that...as it all has to be done and turned in Friday. I still feel confident I have enough time.

Display piece WiP

Started the display piece tonight. I'm soooooo over this project. I think that, if I participate in the next painting challenge, I'll just get a large model (or a full unit) instead of a single figure. Seems so much easier.

Going with a larger display piece so that I can use it for terrain possibly in future games. Or maybe not. I'll figure that out later.

I have a nagging feeling that this thing isn't going to be spectacular. Motivation dwindling, and I have 5.5 more figures to paint for the Ulthuan December challenge (yeah, I know that it's not mandatory....but I'd really like to get my army painted and participating in the monthly challenge seems to be the best motivator).

Last WIP for Everqueen

This is going to be the last WiP for Alarielle. I might do WiP for the display piece, but the figure itself just needs about 5-10 mins more work and then done!

Display piece will be... fun.
At least it's not finecast!

Started working on my prince/noble on elven steed ... even though I should knock out the griphon prince.

06 December 2013

A bit of fluff

Just an outline/roster/role call so far

Esteriothe Veld, a prince of Cothique (usually astride his griphon Mournebeak)
Duranthalis, an archmage from Saphery
Liessa, a fledgling mage (and apprentice to Duranthalis)

Dalos Veld, a noble of Cothique (younger cousin to Esteriothe)
Torendil Veld, a noble of Cothique (younger brother of Dalos), tasked with bearing the banner in battle

Ithilmir Talon - An eagle ship commissioned for the journey to the City of Spires and the Dragon Isles

The Talonguard - A regiment of Seaguard aboard the Ithilmir Talon, sworn to protect the ship, the crew, and the passengers aboard.

The Emerald Drakes - a company of dragon princes accompanying Esteriothe, usually joined by Dalos Veld in combat

More progress

As I close in on completing the paint job on this figure, I have to say I will never buy another finecast model ever again. EVER.

Well, maybe.

I think I just hate the sculpt on this one particular one. 3 times (or more) I have had to repaint a section because a tiny little bit of flash evaded me on the 7 passes I made during the initial cleanup, that start to become glaringly obvious once some paint is applied.

The more I stare at this model, the more I dislike it. It might be my color scheme...but I doubt that's the problem (at least, I hope that's not the problem). I hate the headdress. It looks more Egyptian than elvish. That aside, the claim that finecast allows for more details? Moot point if the details are so fine that they get lost in a layer of paint (not even a thick layer)!

Well, the only stuff left is the flesh tones, touching up spots that my shaking hands farked up, a wash, and the base. Then it's on to the terrain/diorama bit to spruce it up a bit (which should be far less headache).

Also, using the camera on my phone zoomed in seems to bug me, too.
